There is no doubt that if you want to make money online the easiest way to get started is to launch into affiliate marketing. And, you can get started with very, very little money and sometimes with no money at all! But, although it may be easy to get started it is hard to be successful if you don't know what steps to take.
Successful affiliate marketing is very detailed but the following are five things to help you get started:
1. Pick a niche market
Most affiliate marketing newbies start by finding a product to promote first. But this is wrong. You won't make any sales with a product that has no market. Finding the market first will let you know if anyone is in need of the product. If they are in need of the product you have to ask yourself if they are hungry enough for you to want to put your effort into selling them a related product.
2. Choose a market that interests you
When first starting out you should research the markets where you have an interest. The reason is you will have some basic knowledge of that market and it will be easier for you to sell to them. And when they can see you understand the problem, or the need, they will have more confidence in buying through you. Later as you get more successful you can pick sub markets of the areas you are interested in to expand your business. And after you have additional experience you will be able to go into profitable markets you know little about.
3. Find a product related to your market
Once you have found a specific niche market that you have an interest in you can then go about selecting a product that your market will be interested in buying. You can find them at clickbank or commission junction or any of a number of affiliate sites. Choose one product and do everything necessary to get that product noticed by your market. As you make sales you can then market more products to that hungry market.
4. Create a website for your affiliate product
You can create your own website or you can get started for free by setting up a squidoo lens or a blog. These are the places where you will give information about your product and you will refer your visitors to your affiliate merchant. You don't need to sell on your site, lens or blog you just need to pre-sell. Basically you will just be "telling" them about the product as if you are having a conversation with a good friend.
5. Drive traffic to your site
Once you have a market, a niche and a site you will need to get people to visit your site and buy your product. You can drive traffic to your sites through article writing, forum posting or through pay-per-click. Try different techniques and see which one gets you the most visitors and sales.
